29.11.2023 Czech female police officers rescued an injured bird of prey found lying on the motorway in the Zlín Region. The bird, later identified as a common buzzard, was taken into the care of wildlife rescue workers.
Shortly after 1 p.m. on Tuesday, police received reports from passing drivers that a bird of prey was lying on the motorway and unable to fly. Patrols from the motorway police unit in Napajedla and local officers from Otrokovice were immediately dispatched to the scene.
Officers located the injured bird near the central barriers at kilometre 27.5 in the direction of Napajedla. Before intervening, they contacted several wildlife rescue centres, a local veterinarian, and members of the Czech nature conservation association for advice.
Following consultation with experts, two female motorway officers carefully carried out the rescue. After securing traffic in the area, they safely placed the injured bird in a box and transported it to the municipal police station in Otrokovice, where rescue station staff later collected it and confirmed it was a common buzzard.
