19.12.2023 On Saturday morning, the regional director, Colonel Mgr. Zbyněk Dvořák, together with the head of the territorial department of the Police of the Czech Republic in Chomutov, Colonel Mgr. Martin Přibyl, expressed their appreciation to the young policewoman who detained the currency exchange robber, as well as to the other colleagues who assisted her.
A significant contribution to the swift capture of the suspect on Thursday, December 7 was made by Policewoman Kristýna Kubešová, who received words of praise from both directors. The young officer, who only joined the police force this autumn, demonstrated that choosing this profession was the right decision. As Regional Director Zbyněk Dvořák highlighted, although she was off duty at the time and happened to be at the scene by chance, she did not hesitate for a moment and immediately chased after the suspect.
She managed to catch up with him, and although he eventually broke free and escaped, she succeeded in pulling off his jacket and backpack.Kubešová also promptly called the emergency line 158, providing key information about the incident and the fleeing suspect.
By handing over the suspect’s belongings to criminal investigators, she helped them obtain valuable evidence. Based on this information, detectives were able to identify the suspect and immediately alerted police patrols.
Members of the first-response patrol unit used the information effectively and carried out checks at a location where the suspect was believed to be staying. Shortly afterward, they successfully detained him.
As the director summarized, the case represents an exemplary example of cooperation between police officers. The suspect was charged the following day with a particularly serious crime of robbery and the offense of spreading a false alarm. If convicted, he faces up to ten years in prison.
