23.2.2026 Police officers from the Railway Police Department of the Regional Directorate of the Police Force in Trenčín carried out a preventive operation called “Priecestia” last week. The operation took place across five districts of the Trenčín Region and aimed to improve safety at railway crossings and in their immediate surroundings.
Ten railway police officers took part in the operation. Female officers from the Railway Police Department played a significant role in preparing the measures, assessing high-risk locations, and conducting the inspections themselves, focusing primarily on strict monitoring of compliance with regulations near railway crossings and communication with both road and rail transport participants.
The police mainly focused on compliance with rules when crossing railway tracks, respect for road signs and signalling, monitoring general traffic regulations in railway areas and nearby zones, as well as checking for alcohol or other intoxicating substances among drivers and railway company employees. The operation also included public order checks and searches for wanted persons and objects.
During the operation, police inspected 29 vehicles and 61 individuals. A further 32 railway company employees and rail transport workers were also checked. In total, 29 breathalyser tests were carried out, and 23 violations of the law were identified.
Police are also urging both drivers and pedestrians not to take risks at railway crossings and to strictly observe both light and sound warning signals. Carelessness near railway tracks can lead to serious or even fatal consequences.
